February (2026) Turf Update:
February is a preparation month. Bermuda grass is still dormant across Celina, Prosper, and McKinney, but what happens now directly impacts how your lawn performs in April, May, and throughout the summer. Right now, our focus is soil readiness and early-season planning. Dormant turf doesn’t mean inactive soil. Root systems are still alive, and managing moisture, compaction, and nutrient balance now helps ensure a more even green-up when soil temperatures consistently rise above 60°. You may notice inconsistent color across your lawn — that’s normal. Bermuda stays dormant until warmer soil temperatures trigger active growth. There is no need to push early growth. Forcing it too soon creates weak, stressed turf heading into summer.
Mowing Guidance:
Mowing is minimal in February, but if growth appears, keep Bermuda maintained at 2 inches or less. Proper height going into spring encourages stronger lateral spread once growth begins.
Watering Recommendation:
Water only as needed. In most cases, once every 10–14 days is sufficient if rainfall is limited. Overwatering during dormancy can lead to compaction and shallow root development. If we receive steady rain, supplemental irrigation is unnecessary.
What We’re Doing This Month:
• Monitoring soil conditions
• Planning pre-emergent timing based on soil temperature
• Preparing equipment calibration for early growth regulation
• Reviewing soil test data for program adjustments
Pre-emergent timing is critical in North Texas. Application is based on soil temperature — not just the calendar. Proper timing now prevents weed pressure later. February is not flashy. It’s foundational. Lawns that thrive in June are built in February.
We appreciate the trust you place in Big League Lawns. Our goal is simple — stronger roots, thicker turf, and consistent results across North Texas.
